Poria Cocos Extract

Poria cocos is an edible medicinal fungus known as “Fuling” in Chinese and has been used as a Chinese traditional medicine for more than two thousand years. Poria Cocos Extract contains polysaccharides, triterpenoids, fatty acids, sterols, enzymes, etc. Since 1970s, the chemical constituents and biological activities of Poria cocos have been studied by Chinese and foreign scholars, they found that it has many functions such as improve body immunity, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and so on. 

Pharmacological studies reveal that polysaccharide is the most abundant substance in Poria cocos and has a wide range of biological activities including antitumour, immunomodulation, anti-inflammation, antioxidation, anti-ageing, antihepatitis, antidiabetics and anti-haemorrhagic fever effects. 

Poria cocos extract polysaccharide is fungal polysaccharide, which is the symbolic component of poria cocos, accounting for 70%~90% of dry weight of poria cocos. Due to the complexity of polysaccharide composition and structure, polysaccharides isolated from Poria cocos by different researchers are different in molecular weight, composition and structure. We can divide poria cocos polysaccharide into two parts. A class of homopolysaccharides called dextran, which are mainly linked by β-(1→3) glycosidic bonds, contain a small number of (1→ 6) linked branches of dextran, also known as Pachyma, which occupy the majority of polysaccharides. 

Pachyma can improve water solubility and biological activity through derivatization,common carboxymethylation, hydroxyethylation, hydroxpropyl ylation, sulfate and so on, among which carboxymethylated derivative (CMP) has obvious biological activity.  

Another polysaccharide is fructose, galactose, glucose, mannose and other components of heteropolysaccharide.
