It was proved that propolis had strong antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was significantly increased at the concentration of 0.01% -- 0.05%.

●Antibacterial action:

Propolis contains a large number of flavonoids, aromatic acids, fatty acids and terpenes, which have a broad spectrum of antibacterial action. In 1947, kazan Veterinary College of the former Soviet Union first studied the bacteriostatic effects of propolis ethanol extract on 39 kinds of bacteria and 39 kinds of plant pathogenic fungi at the concentration of 100μg/ mL.  The results showed that propolis had inhibitory effect on 25 kinds of bacteria and 20 kinds of fungi, among which gram-positive bacteria and acid-fast bacteria were the most sensitive to propolis extract.  This result was further confirmed by the study of Lindenfclser(1967) in the United States.  

●Antivirus activity:

Propolis extract powder is a natural antiviral substance and has good effects on many diseases.  Studies have shown that flavonols (galangin, camphenol, quercetin, etc.), flavonoids (coyne, apigenin, gamboflavin and teak coyne), flavanones (pinosin and isocurtin), phenolic acids and caffeic acid derivatives in propolis have antiviral effects.
